
Who are the Friends of National City Public Library?
The Friends of the National City Public Library are people who care about books, learning, and ideas. We see our library as a vital part of National City. We are advocates, volunteers, and fundraisers for the library. Through fundraising, we seek to enhance the library's resources, increase community access to informaton and knowledge, and provide a cultural gathering place for our diverse population.
- In May 1982, a group of committed men and women formed the Friends of the National City Public Library.
- The Friends promote public support and use of the library, and inform members and the public of issues affecting the library.
- The Friends provide financial assistance to the library's collections and programs.
- The Friends raise funds for library materials and equipment not supplied by the normal budget resources.
- The Friends of the National City Library is a volunteer, non-profit, tax exempt organization.
How can you help?
You can help by becoming a member of the Friends organization. Friends believe that a good library is important to the community. We have several interesting activities and levels of participation that might appeal to you. We are constantly looking for volunteers to man the bookstore, sort incoming donations of books and magazines, special events such as book sales, help with our Newsletter and annual membership drive. Please give us a call at 619-470-5930. You can also leave word at the circulation desk that you are interesting in becoming active in the Friends.

What else do we do?
Friends of National City Library sponsors a Bookstore which is located near the entrance of the main library. The Friends Bookstore is open Monday through Thursday from 2 - 6 pm. Donations of gently used print materials are accepted. The Friends meet the third Wednesday of every month in the library meeting room.
